Alleged Market Duplication Investigated By UK For Apple and Google

Apple and Google are being investigated by UK regulators for alleged market duplication: The UK's Competitiveness and Marketing Authority (CMA) has announced an investigation into Apple and Google's "duplication" of mobile ecosystems. A day after a similar search was launched in Japan, Britain said it would conduct a similar investigation.

CMA will focus on the supply of operating systems, including iOS and Android, the App Store and Google Play Store, and web browsers such as Safari and Chrome, in Apple and Google's 'effective DuPoly'.

The department defines a mobile ecosystem as a gateway through which consumers can access a variety of products, materials, and services. This means that research will cover a range of services and products as well.

‘The CMA is concerned that this could lead to a reduction in innovation in the sector and consumers paying higher prices for devices and apps, or higher advertising costs for goods and services may increase the cost of other goods and services,’ the official said.

The announcement will also specifically address the question of whether one of the two tech companies has market power over the other business, which will include a study of app developers, who rely on their app stores.

Apple's App Store is already under investigation in the UK.
