 Like every year, August 15 is a public holiday in France. In Paris, we take stock of the department stores and shopping centers that remain open this Ascension Day.

August 15 is a public holiday and a day off in France. Within the Catholic religion, it is the day of Assumption Day that celebrates the ascension of the Virgin Mary to heaven. As a result, many businesses and services are closed. But not all of them. All public services such as CAF, La Poste, Pôle Emploi or Tax Center remain closed. In contrast, in the private sector, most major retailers (Carrefour, Auchan, Leclerc, Intermarché, etc.) are open. However, it is recommended to check the schedules. In Paris, here's an overview of those that are still open. 

Slightly different hours 

As for the  department stores, most remain open, with slightly modified hours for some: 

La  Samaritaine  ( 1st  arrondissement): open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (  9th  arrondissement): The Coupole, L'Homme and Maison stores are open on public holidays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Printemps  Haussmann (9th arrondissement ): open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on public holidays

BHV Marais (  4th arrondissement): open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Le Bon Marché  Rive Gauche (7th arrondissement ): CLOSED

As for  shopping centers , here are the ones that will open their doors: 

Carrousel du Louvre  ( 1st  arrondissement): open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Forum des Halles  ( 1st  arrondissement): open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

The  Palais shops (  17th  arrondissement): open from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Citadium Caumartin (  9th  arrondissement): open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Bercy Village (  12th  arrondissement): shops open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Center Beaugrenelle (  15th  arrondissement): shops open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Saint-Lazare station shopping center  (  8th  arrondissement): open from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Passage du Havre (  9th  arrondissement): open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Center Italie Deux (  13th  arrondissement): open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Passy Plaza (  16th  arrondissement): open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Montparnasse Rive Gauche  : open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m
